Odd Sites for April 5

eBay Auctions -- Looking for a jeep, here's a nice one, except for that small fire...

More eBay Oddness -- Sell momma's wisdom...

Rejected Kids Books -- Just make sure you go all the way to 9 of 9. You won't be disappointed! I'm buying the whole set for my kid.

Fork-You -- Amaze friends, frighten neighbors, be the hit of your next party, become a fork bender!

Weird Art -- Funny captions on somewhat weird art.

I've got my new Mac and I'm all excited, I go get a new printer, because I need a new one you know, an Epson 1280. I plug it all in and peal all the little blue strips of tape off every nook and cranny and load the software. Oh okay I've got to restart it, no problem. Wha-wha-what's it doing? It's starting in OS 9 instead of OS X which I'm kind of getting used to and that's all I've seen. I've spent all of about 30 minutes of my life using a Mac prior to buying this and now I have to deal with two brand new operating systems. So I can't figure out how to get it to OS X, so I reload it. Finally I'm back at OS X and I try to select the printer. I get some nice little message in the printer select box saying for some reason it closed. It's almost a soothing message, not alarming, but still know things aren't right--kind of a Buddhist middle-way thing (Now if it was Microsoft they'd have a series of three error messages that get you to load a file from some disk you haven't seen for three years and it won't let you browse for it, but they want you to find it.) I try loading the software again and I have to restart again, but I figure out how to get back to OS X--minor victory. I screw with this for awhile and get nowhere. Then I go to Apple's website for support and find a forum about printer problems. I see one for Epson 1200s with about 900 posts that say things like "petition Epson to get drivers for the 1200!" So I kind of panic wondering if my brand new baby is in that fateful list, so I go to the Epson site. Finally I find drivers for OS X and I can download them. So I download them and download them and download them. The damn Epson, Apple, Earthlink trifecta keep not letting me finish the download by repeatedly losing my connection. So as I'm about to have a king hell stroke, wondering what kind of damage I would cause by throwing a bottle across the room, I decide to think about puppies and scented candles. That kind of takes the edge off so I can pick up my son from school without him wondering what my frikkin' mental problem is. I needed a break from the Epson/Apple padded cell so I enjoy a nice soothing interlude in rush hour traffic. When I get home miraculously the drivers download--I think maybe it's because I kept staring at the download progress meter and it fot nervous wondering what I might do if it hungup. I only had to restart once more and like magic, black ink spewed out on the paper and made some very nice looking words and all was pretty decent.

I'm still very excited about my hotrod computer, but I've got that feeling like after your car overheats once and you're driving around in the summer and you keep staring and staring at the temp gauge petrified that it might creep past its normal resting point, waiting for the next disaster...

Odd Sites for April 3

Weather on Mars? -- Get the latest scoop on the weather conditions on Mars. Please don't ask me why, it just somehow seemed appropriate. Hey it's good to plan ahead.

Coney Island USA -- It ain't Mars but sometimes it seems like it. One of my personal favorite places on this planet. This site has interesting historic info along with what's happening this week. Anyone traveling to NYC has got to include Coney Island in their travel plans. If you won't be in NYC anytime soon you can always dream.

I'd also like to add that I have freed myself from the evil empire, yes the diablo from redmond--Microsoft no longer has its claws in me, I switched to a Mac! I'm free from the great satan! One thing though that's freaking me out is no right click--I was addicted! I feel as if my middle finger has been amputated. I do like it lots. And oh my god OS X is beautiful to look at and it works--smooth and simple. My computer hasn't locked up for two whole days. That's like some kind of record!
